Shaman
Shaman is one of the two puppies we kept from the Pete x Tarot Winter 2019 Litter. For a puppy that is all about party time, she is maturing in surprising ways. For all the boundless energy and tomboy nature, she is the most likely dog to instigate snuggle time. I am looking forward to seeing how she continues to develop into the adult dog, but I really want to focus on learning the world, learning basic manners, and growing up.

Ground Work for Puppy Time
Mike was kind enough to give up six Saturdays to work Poem through Puppy Kindergarten, allowing me to focus on Shaman while on the other side of the room. Despite that distraction, Shaman held her focus to learn basic commands and start to learn how to contain her excitment when meeting new people. Being a complete wiggle-worm means she has to do something to express the excitement and often has to "woof" at nothing in particular. The result is a lot of focus work and Pupperoni while she learns to be patient, which seems to be working.

Nosework
I had the most fun starting Shaman on search work when she was eight weeks old. The search area was super small and contained two pairs of sneakers. The challenge having the hide move from one side of Mike's sneaker to the other, which made me laugh considering what I am used to. As she grew bigger and older, the search areas became more complex and the hides more challenging, but I continue to be impressed with the way Shaman gets down to bussiness.

I am in no rush to put the puppies on Odor and am content with placing Primary (food) hides for Shaman to find. This way I can challenge the young brain using the desire to find the treat and not have adverse responses if something in the environment suddenly becomes scary. In result, Shaman plows through or around objects to get to her hides and I have fun running her on the searches I set for my Friday nights classes.

I am looking forward to being able to enlongate training sessions and include increasing challenges all around. Shaman is enjoying the short sessions and long "puppy walks" that include sniffing everything along the pathway and woofing in excitment when we encounter people. That foundation is more important to me than anything else.
