Poem
Poem is one of the two puppies we kept from the Pete x Tarot Winter 2019 Litter. Although more reserved from her littermates, she is more task driven and focuses quickly. She is true to her lineage in that she naturally air scents and knows more about her extended environment, which can be part of her problem. Aside from being busy, Poem is gentle when she knows the situation calls for calming. I am looking forward to seeing how she continues to develop into the adult dog, but I really want to focus on learning the world, learning basic manners, and growing up.

Ground Work for Puppy Time
Mike was kind enough to give up six Saturdays to work Poem through Puppy Kindergarten. She preferred not to interact with all of the humans, but ended up being the "puppy friend" to all of her classmates. She also worked really well for Mike, learning basic commands, "give paw", and excelling with the class exercises. Since she needed a bit more people experience, I took her to additional classes where she did well with the advanced lessons and got more human interaction. When the opportunity came, I took Poem with me for a two night hotel stay which for a nine month old puppy she handled the experience like a pro.

Nosework
Poem was started when she was eight weeks old, run on the same search her sister was. It was so much fun watching Poem air scent over the top of Mike's sneaker to source out the hide as it was moved from one side to the other. As she got older, the search complexity increased and this puppy continues to do an amazing job of air scenting to locate the treats. In so many ways, her style is amazing to watch and is more direct.

I am in no rush to put the puppies on Odor and am content with placing Primary (food) hides for Poem to find. This way I can challenge the young brain using the desire to find the treat and not have adverse responses if something in the environment suddenly becomes scary. In result, Poem works to find her hides and I have fun running her on the searches I set for my Thursday night classes.

I am looking forward to being able to enlongate training sessions and include increasing challenges all around. Poem is enjoying the short sessions and long "puppy walks" that include sniffing everything along the pathway and learning a routine when we encounter people. That foundation is more important to me than anything else.
